According to bhagawadgita, God manifests himself on earth whenver there is a downfall of dharma, to resurrect back to its glory. But if Buddha be considered as an avatara, around 500 years back, how bad was the position of dharma then? And am sure most of us are with me that the position of dharma is much much down than to the one during Gautama Buddha's period.
What made our hindu pandits to treat Buddha as an Avatar?
